it's 2 am and i'm still wide awake, so thought i'd write a little bit about my saturday evening in the hopes that it might make me sleepy. it's sure to make you sleepy.

we went to matt's el rancho for dinner and the joint was packed. we waited for "first available" for 45 minutes. in most of the free world, first available refers to "smoking or non?", but in uber-green austin, texas, "first available" means "inside or outside?". fortunately we were seated outside for the most beautiful weather... i actually commented that the climate was perfect; not the slightest hint of a chill in the air and not even the faintest heat. odd for texas, especially this time of the year. it was absolute perfection. as was matt's. i had green enchiladas, one of matt's famous open-faced tacos and 2 coronas with lime, of course. matt's has awesome salsa. burns on entry, flames on exit.

saxon pub = great. the show was terrific. greg was unbelievable as usual. exceeded all expectations. i was mistaken in my previous post; he was playing with bonnie bishop, not pauline reese. bonnie puts on a great show, and i love the saxon because it's one of those intmate venues. it's an actual pub, so it's pub sized.

now
i'm super-amped because i found out that my most favorite female artist & songwriter will be playing the saxon on march 21. susan gibson is unbelievably talented and has the most beautiful, pure voice. her lyrics are so extremely heartfelt and sometimes heart wrenching while still being provocative, intelligent and often humorous. most people don't know her by name, but everyone on the planet knows her work; she penned the dixie chicks' "wide open spaces". her version of wide open spaces will knock you to your knees. in fact, most of her songs will.
if you're going to be in austin on march 21, i highly recommend making it to see susan gibson. it's something of life altering experience.

i really needed to have a good time tonight, and i did.
